8 reasons why you should not remove your pubic hair

Pubic hair in its natural, untrimmed state is unlikely to lead to skin complaints. However, when you start trying to remove it, suddenly you could be dealing with ingrown hairs, abscesses and shaving rashes, all of which are extremely uncomfortable, painful and, if left untreated, could require medical attention. Do yourself and your skin a favor and just let it grow.

6. Lost time and money

The time and money to maintain a pube-free zone may just be enough to make you rethink the task. A recent study showed that the average American woman spends two months and $23,000 on lady part hair removal over the course of her lifetime.

7. Less sweat

We all sweat, even down there. Imagine a hot summer day and your shorts are snug against your body all day — things are probably going to get sweaty. The most natural way to prevent this? Let your public hair be a natural buffer between your clothing and your vagina. Pubic hair wicks moisture away from the skin underneath, keeping your vagina dry and healthy.

8. It’s dangerous

Putting a sharp object or hot wax near your private parts isn’t always a great idea. In a survey published in JAMA Dermatology, researchers found that 76 percent of adults in the US said they groomed their pubic hair. About a quarter of them said they’ve sustained injuries from their grooming techniques. Not surprisingly, people who reported injuries from pubic hair grooming were also those who said they groomed more frequently and were more likely to removing most or all of their hair.

The next time you’re contemplating shaving or waxing your pubic hair, remember all the amazing things this hair does for your body, and buy some boy-shorts instead. Your vagina will thank you.
